Breaking Down the ABS System in MLB The Show 26: A Deep Dive (9 อ่าน)
24 เม.ย 2569 10:42
In MLB The Show 26, the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) Challenge System makes its debut, bringing real-world MLB technology right to your console. This system allows you to challenge and contest borderline calls using a "robot umpire" review, adding a layer of strategy and realism to the game.
How the ABS System Works
Rather than replacing human umpires, the ABS system serves as a strategic resource that lets you contest incorrect calls without interrupting the flow of the game. Here's how it works:
Who can challenge? Only the batter, catcher, or pitcher has the authority to initiate a challenge. Managers are not allowed to call for an ABS review.
Challenge Limit: Each team gets two challenges per game, so use them wisely.
Successful Challenges: If the challenge results in an overturned call, you get to keep your challenge.
Failed Challenges: If the call stands, you lose that challenge for the rest of the game.
Extra Innings: Teams that have used all their challenges get one more chance during extra innings.
The Input: To challenge a call, simply press Down on the D-Pad immediately after a pitch is called. In real-life MLB, players signal a challenge by tapping their helmet or cap.
The Visuals: Once a challenge is made, an animated graphic appears alongside a digital strike zone overlay, showing whether the call was accurate or needs to be overturned.
Strike Zone Definitions
One of the biggest changes with the ABS system is how it defines the strike zone. While standard settings in previous MLB The Show titles required only half the ball to be in the zone for a strike, ABS adheres strictly to the official MLB rule book definition:
Width: The strike zone spans 17 inches, the exact width of the home plate.
Height: The top of the zone is set at 53.5% of the batter's height, and the bottom is 27%.
The "Sliver" Rule: Under ABS rules, if any part of the ball catches even a sliver of the zone, it’s considered a strike. This means a pitch could be just barely touching the zone and still be ruled a strike.
Availability Across Modes
The ABS Challenge System is available in several modes:
Offline Modes: The system is active in Franchise and Road to the Show, enhancing immersion by adding a layer of realism to these modes. You can use the challenges to correct incorrect calls as you play through your career or manage a team.
Online Modes: ABS is typically not available in Diamond Dynasty or standard online head-to-head matches. These modes rely on "Perfect" umpire accuracy, meaning every call is technically 100% accurate by game logic, making the ABS challenge system redundant.
Customization: For players who prefer the traditional experience without ABS, you can disable the system in the General Settings under the "Rules" tab.
The ABS Challenge System in MLB The Show 26 adds an exciting new layer of strategy to the game, mirroring the changes being implemented in real-world MLB. Whether you're looking to challenge a missed call or simply enjoy the realism it brings, the ABS system provides a dynamic and engaging mechanic that keeps gameplay fresh and immersive.
